Back to School
Here we go again preschool families! It's time to talk about "back to school." Many of our new friends have joined our classrooms or will be joining us shortly. As we transition into another phase of our preschool program here at St. Francis Children's Center, we like to prepare our little ones for all of the new challenges and adventures ahead. This week we will focus on the concept of school. What we will learn and do, what our jobs and the teacher's jobs are in the classroom and how we can make our classrooms wonderful places to learn and grow. Just a reminder, there will be no school on Monday, September 6th in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
Concepts for the Children to Learn:
* A school is a place for children to learn and grow.
* Teachers are people at school that teach, love and help us.
* At school we follow a schedule of activities each day.
* There are rules we need to follow at school to keep everyone safe and happy.
* We will learn many things at school, like our letters, numbers, shapes, how to write and draw.
* We will learn that when we come to school it is okay to miss our families, but we will remember they always come back.
Learning Experiences:
* As a class, we will create our classroom rules.
* We will learn what the letter Ss looks like, what it sounds like and some words that begin with that letter during Circle Time.
* During small groups, we will label and sort the colors red, yellow and blue.
* During small groups, we will read "If You Take a Mouse to School" by Laura Neumeroff.
* Make Newspaper Sticky Art in the Art Center
* Play with sand and sifters in the Sensory Center

Show & Tell: Wednesday, September 9th- Please bring something that begins with the letter Ss.
Please be aware, Show and Tell dates will alter week to week, in order
to provide all of our children the opportunity to participate.
Upcoming Field Trip Reminder: On Wednesday, September 15th we will
be going to The Schlitz Audubon Nature Center. Please make sure that your
permission slips are turned in.
Friendly Preschool Reminder: Please remember to bring in your school
supplies for this year. If you still need a school supply list, please
ask one of your child's teachers.
As the weather begins to shift from summer to fall, please dress your
child accordingly. We will continue to play outside everyday in fair weather.
Tennis shoes, with Velcro, are the best option for preschool play. They
keep your child's feet safe in the woodchips and are easy for them to
put on independently.
